The Story is in the Footsteps

One late October evening while out exploring a beach on the southern California coast, I came across this scene and it immediately caught my attention, and something connected with me. I stopped and photographed the scene that lay before me and then just enjoyed the moment of time for the rest of the evening.

I looked and thought about this photograph for several months trying to understand the story before me. The image begs, where are the steps in the sand going or where did they come from? Who made them? That could have been me. What journeys lay before the steps, or what journeys have the step already taken? I will never know, but I can always wonder and imagine. The story is in the footsteps…
