Reflection
Reflection
As the year 2018 comes to a close, I felt that I needed to end it with one more image and story. I have often seen similar images in the past that made me think and ponder their meanings, so I decided to create an image of my own. I took this image in December of this year. I had an idea, or image in mind. I wanted a late summer image with the huge summer thunder head clouds that we often get in the evenings in my part of the world, but as life often goes, things don’t go as planned. You never get around to it; something distracts you or time gets in the way. On this day during a moment of solitude, I realized there was no one around for miles. The peace and quiet I experienced was priceless. The only sound was of the ever so tiny lapping of the waves against the snow and ice-covered shore. When I captured this image, I realized it was complete. As an artist you are always changing something, and this image didn’t need changed. I had a moment of reflection, as I contemplated the past and thought of what the future holds in the coming year--where will I go? Where will I end up? What about my family and their future? My relationship with my sweetheart? What about my health and my financial situation, my travels, my goals, and yes even my soul? The conclusion to this is there is no conclusion and there never will be! Wherever the mysterious turns and twists of life takes you, you think you know you have it under control, but you know you don’t. Reflect on your life! Make time to learn how to quiet your mind, contemplate about the past, and learn from its experiences and lessons. Contemplate about the unpredictable future and if you figure a little bit out, good for you.
“Happiness is a choice” has been a saying and a goal that I say to myself quite often and I strive to live. It is not easy, and I know this, but it is my choice. I encourage and hope you to take time and reflect and make your life happier and better in the coming years ahead.
