INFO:
Because senior portraits are so meaningful and last a lifetime, we put together a few suggestions that will help you have a great portrait session and truly amazing images.
Plan on multiple outfits to bring. Think about your complete look from head to toe. We will be taking photos that are close-up, full length, and some in between, so bring several outfits to your photo session in a variety of colors, not just your favorite hue. Include different styles such as casual, semi formal, formal or outdoors, so we have several options for images.
Remember to bring accessories for all outfits, from footwear to jewelry and hair accents.
Check your clothing ahead of time to make sure it isn’t spotted or faded, and transport your outfits (you can wear one when you arrive) on hangers to prevent wrinkles.
Consider color. Solid colors are recommended for most or all outfits. Colors that go well with a medium or dark background for close-ups include medium or dark tones of green, brown, rust, wine or blue. And of course, darker shades are more slimming. For shirts and tops avoid colors that are too similar to your skin color. (These might be a brown, beige, tan, or very pale peach, and very pale gray). For many people these shades can drain the color from your face making you appear washed-out.
Use clothing to accentuate your best features.
Girls
Apply makeup normally. Go with practiced hair styles
Casual portraits give you much more variety in clothing, color and style. We can also be much more creative with our digital imaging. You can choose your favorite sports outfit, sun dress, slouchy sweaters, skirts, shorts or jeans outfit. Pick the colors you really like. Chances are they're colors others say look really good on you too. Textures are great as are interesting hats, belts, jackets and scarves. Girls may want to forego short sleeves or spaghetti straps if their arms are heavy, since these styles will only accentuate that feature.
Looking for dressier fashion? Wear a neckline that is flattering to your face and neck: Round faces, square jaw lines, or shorter necks look best in a v-neck as opposed to a round or crew neck. Thin faces, pointy chins, and very long necks look better in a boat neck, crew neck, or round neckline.
Guys
A fresh shave for guys is recommended and mustaches or beards should be neatly trimmed. You can choose your jeans, casual, sportswear, or your Letterman jacket. You may want to bring your sports uniform and equipment. We recommend avoiding logo shirts and large patterns. At least one outfit should be a solid fabric with long sleeves, for a rich, painterly-style portrait. T-shirts are great unless they are white or almost all white. Today’s white fabrics bounce a bluish light on the face and draw attention away from your face. An alternative look would be a dress shirt and a sweater that is a solid color or has a slight pattern. If you want to wear only a dress shirt and tie, wear a colored shirt. White shirts look best under a jacket. Stay away from tans. Make sure your hands are presentable.
Personalize your photos with props. We invite you to bring favorite props to the shoot, such as sports equipment if you are a team player or fan, musical instruments, or hobby items. You can even bring a favorite portable piece of furniture, such as a lightweight chair or stool. You can also bring your pet to appear in some of the shots with you.
